New computer or repair the old one?

A simple way to decide, before you spend money in the wrong place.

It is tempting to replace a slow computer straight away, but many older machines can be made fast again for a fraction of the cost. Equally, repairing a computer that has reached the end of its useful life only delays the inevitable.

Repair or upgrade makes sense if

  • The computer is less than about six to seven years old
  • It is slow rather than broken, and has a spinning hard drive that could become an SSD
  • It runs Windows 11 or is eligible for it
  • The fix costs less than around half of the price of a decent replacement

Replace if

  • It cannot run a supported operating system
  • Multiple things are failing at once, such as the battery, screen and drive
  • Repair parts are expensive or no longer available

We will always give you an honest recommendation and a price before any work starts.
