Microsoft stopped providing free security updates for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. Your computer will keep working, but it will no longer receive routine fixes for newly discovered security problems. Over time that makes it a bigger target for malware and scams.
Your options
- Upgrade to Windows 11, if your PC meets the requirements. Many computers from around 2018 onwards do, and the upgrade is free.
- Replace the computer, if it cannot run Windows 11. A modest modern machine is often better value than extending the life of a very old one.
- Check whether a paid extended-update route is still available for your situation - these have been time-limited, so check Microsoft's current details or ask us.
- Keep using it for non-critical jobs only, offline or with strict precautions - not for banking or sensitive work.
What to do first
Back up your files before changing anything. Then check whether your PC is eligible for Windows 11 in Settings > Windows Update. If it is not, we can advise on whether an upgrade, such as more memory or a faster drive, is worthwhile, or whether replacement is the better choice.
Businesses should treat this as a priority: unsupported systems can create problems for insurance, compliance and customer trust.
